ARLINGTON MILLIONS: SECRETARIAT G1, BEVERLY D G1, MILIONS G1

Arlington has their biggest day of the year on Saturday with the Arlington Millions card, featuring 3 G1’s including the Millions, the Beverly D, and Secretariat, all on turf.

There are also 3 other turf stakes on the 12 race card. This is typically the time of year when the European invasion officially begins as the horses from across the pond start competing against the US horses, primarily on turf, in preparation for the Breeders Cup.

The Secretariat G1 is for 3 year olds going 10 furlongs. The 13 horse field includes 3 Europeans making their first start in the US. Currently Todd Pletcher’s Jack Milton by War Front is the morning line favorite.

The Beverly D goes 9.5 on turf for fillies and mares. Marketing Mix is the legitimate favorite coached by Tom Proctor, but Euro’s Duntle and Dank look to have some say in it. Top EP La Tia would like to have her own pace at 20-1.

The Millions G1 is for 3 and up 10f for a lot of money. About half of the 13 horse field are shippers from Europe looking to establish their dominance. Dale Romans and Richard Mandella have strong contenders to challenge them. Chad Brown’s Real Solution at 10-1 looks like the best value and will be hard to beat if he repeats his last race.

On Friday the Pick 9 Jackpot is up to $128k and that will likely continue into Saturday. The secret link for the Arlington Millions full race grid is here:

SARATOGA: SWORD DANCER G1; ALABAMA G1, LAKE PLACID G2

Of course, Saratoga is also in on the action as usual, with a couple of Grade 1 races of their own. The Sword Dancer will be 1.5 miles on the turf for 3 and up. The fully stocked field includes some of the top runners in the country, including Big Blue Kitten, Teaks North, Twilight Eclipse, Optimizer, and favored Boisterous.

Also at Saratoga is the Alabama G1 for 3F on 10f dirt. It looks like a 2-filly race between heavily favored late runner Princess of Sylmar 3-5 and Fiftyshadesofhay 2-1 who will have some front end company. Saratoga will also have the Lake Placid G2 on Sunday.

OTHER SATURDAY STAKES: CANADIAN DERBY G3, LOUISIANA CUP, DEL MAR OAKS G1
It’s not often that we mention Northlands Park, but it’s worth noting on Saturday they run the Canadian Derby for 11f on dirt. You may have heard of favorite Broadway Empire and Title Contender.

Louisiana Downs is having a big Louisiana Cup day with 8 stakes races on the card including the Lousiana Cup Derby.

Del Mar never misses out on the stakes action on the weekend, and will have the Del Mar Oaks G1 on turf Saturday and the Rancho Bernardo G3 on Sunday.

SUNDAY STAKES:
DEL MAR: RANCHO BERNARDO G3
EMERALD: LONGACRES MILE G3
MONMOUTH: ISELIN G3
SARATOGA: LAKE PLACID G2
