Hawthorne offering $500 grand to the Illinois Derby winner today. The 4-5 morning line favorite is Baffert’s Midnight Hawk, who already ranks at 15 in the Kentucky Derby point standings.
There are no points offered for the Illinois, so this is most likely a tuneup for the Midnight Lute colt and a relatively easy way to make a half million bucks. The competition is subpar, and unless something goes wrong, he should win gate to wire.
