Oaklawn Park has its biggest race day of the year, hosting the Grade 1 Arkansas Derby with a purse of $1 Million.
This Derby has Baffert as the favorite, not surprisingly, with American Pharaoah by Pioneer of the Nile installed as the 1-2 morning line favorite.
The only chink in Pharoah’s armor is that he runs only on the front end, and there is other speed in the race. Can he hold them off for 9f?
Also on tap is the Oaklawn Handicap, which looks much more contentious. But while the speed is supposed to win, there are some great late runners at 6-1, 10-1, and even 15-1.
Two more listed stakes are on the card for 3yo fillies and 3yo males, that weren’t comfortable taking on the graded competitions from the Blossom and Derby.
