Thistledown Sat. June 20 Ohio Derby $500k Secret Grid
Ohio has its big day of the year racing at Thisteldown, offering a half million dollar purse at the Ohio Derby, one of the largest purses without a graded stakes designation. Remember, it took years for the Sunland Derby to get a grade.
The monring line favorite is Ghostzapper colt Whiskey Ticket, coached by Bob Baffert. However, this is a nice field as more than half of them are Triple Crown nominees, and several participated in TC races.
Far Right and War Story hope for a hot pace to close on from the rear. Whiskey Ticket, Divining Rod, and Tencendur will press the pace to pick up pieces on the stretch.
Mr. Z will likely run early as usual and looks to regain his pre-Triple Crown form. Don’t count out Thirtysilverpieces, looking to stretch out his spring sucess a bit.
Several of these talented 3yo’s will be targeting such prestigious races as the Haskell, Dandy, and perhaps even the Travers.
There are 9 races on the card, with over 90 horses initially entered, so it should be a good betting day.
