Huge Racing at Belmont, Gulfstream, Woodbine on Independence & Dominion Day Weekend!

Happy Holiday Weekend my friend!

As you know, this weekend is the Independence Day holiday weekend for the USA, and Dominion Day in Canada, who apparently decided long ago to participate in fireworks the same week as well. It’s now known as Domindepence Week (well not really, I just made that up.)

In case you missed it, last weekend Santa Anita had a big day with the Gold Cup G1 and 3 other graded stakes. The Gold was won by Sadler’s Hard Aces at almost 8-1. Hard Aces was 4th in Grid Power Rating, and also one of two S0’s in the speed-filled race. The other S0, first in GPR, finished 4th his first race on dirt. In between were two favorites.

We couldn’t prevent favoritism from taking 2 of the graded races, but we did get he Grid’s top LP filly to win the Senorita G3 on turf at odds of almost 10-1. Also, the top PF last out was 2nd in the Triple Bend G1 at 12-1, behind the even money favorite. This Grid was also posted last week free to the public.

A HUGE weekend of horse racing festivities started TODAY with the G3 Dominion Day stakes at Woodbine in Canada, where horses age 3 and up went 10f on the polytrack. Red Rifle won at 2-1 as expected, followed by 3-1 Florida Won, whose ML odds were 12-1.

The ENORMOUS extended weekend of racing continues, not on July 2, which is fortunate because I’ll be going to the BIG concert with Def Lep, Styx, and Tesla. On July 3, the weekend will be heating up in the New York area. We’ll definitely have a grid for one of these tracks on Thursday.

• Belmont Park: Perfect Sting S, $100,000g, 4&up f/m, 8f.
• Finger Lakes Gaming & Racetrack: New York Derby, $150,000a, 3yo, 8.5f.
• Finger Lakes Gaming & Racetrack: New York Oaks, $75,000g, 3yo f, 8.5f.
• Monmouth Park: Molly Pitcher S (gr. III), $150,000g, 3&up f/m, 8.5f.

Not to be outdone by Finger Lakes of course, Belmont EXPLODES on July 4 with the Belmont Derby and Oaks, both invitational G1 races worth at least $1 MILLION each! Tack on some other traditional summer races for Belmont and you have one amazing race card.

• Belmont Park: Belmont Derby Invitational (gr. I), $1,250,000g, 3yo, 10f.
• Belmont Park: Belmont Oaks Invitational (gr. I), $1,000,000g, 3yo f, 10f.
• Belmont Park: Belmont Sprint Championship (gr. III), $400,000g, 3&up, 7f.
• Belmont Park: Dwyer S (gr. III), $500,000g, 3yo, 8f.
• Belmont Park: Suburban H (gr. II), $500,000g, 4&up, 10f.
• Belmont Park: Victory Ride S (gr. III), $150,000g, 3yo f, 6.5f.

Perhaps there will be a Free Grid for the big Belmont card on July 4, but also considered for that honor will be Evangeline Downs, which doesn’t get much press. Evangeline jumps into the action with their MONSTER Louisiana Legends Night featuring 8 stakes races worth at least $100k in various categories:

• Evangeline Downs: Louisiana Legends Cheval, $100,000g, 3yo c/g, 8f.
• Evangeline Downs: Louisiana Legends Classic, $125,000g, 3&up, 8.5f.
• Evangeline Downs: Louisiana Legends Distaff, $100,000g, 3&up f/m, 8.5f.
• Evangeline Downs: Louisiana Legends Mademoiselle, $100,000g, 3&up f/m, 5.5f.
• Evangeline Downs: Louisiana Legends Soiree, $100,000g, 3yo f, 8f.

But wait! It doesn’t end there! On July 5, the SUMMIT OF SPEED returns to Miami after a one year hiatus, and at Gulfstream Park rather than Calder. The Summit includes no less than 9 stakes races, highlighted by the Princess Rooney and Smile Sprint handicaps.

• Gulfstream Park Racing Association: Azalea S (gr. III), $150,000g, 3yo, 7f.
• Gulfstream Park Racing Association: Birdonthewire S, $75,000g, 2yo, 5.5f.

• Gulfstream Park Racing Association: Princess Rooney H (gr. II), $250,000g, 3&up f/m, 6f.
• Gulfstream Park Racing Association: Smile Sprint H (gr. II), $250,000g, 3&up, 6f.
• Gulfstream Park Racing Association: Spook Express, $75,000g, 3&up f/m, 8.5f.

Monmouth also throws out another couple graded stakes, including the annual edition of the G1 United Nations Stakes, wherein normally European horses begin their Breeders Cup invasion.

• Monmouth Park: Salvator Mile S (gr. III), $150,000g, 3&up, 8f.
• Monmouth Park: United Nations S (gr. I), $500,000g, 3&up, 11f.

Woodbine will continue celebrating Dominion Week on Sunday, with their biggest race of the year, the $1 MILLION (Canada) Queen’s Plate, for 3yo’s going 10f on poly. 4 other stakes are on the card.

• Woodbine: Clarendon S, $150,000g, 2yo, 5.5f.
• Woodbine: Dance Smartly S (Can-II), $200,000g, 3&up f/m, 9f.
• Woodbine: Highlander S (Can-II), $200,000g, 3&up, 6f.
• Woodbine: Queen’s Plate S, $1,000,000g, 3yo, 10f.
• Woodbine: Singspiel S (Can-III), $150,000g, 3&up, 12f.

There will be a free grid for one of these tracks on Sunday as well, at the usual location. We just don’t know which one yet.

There are many other various listed stakes races scattered around the continent between now and Sunday during this impressive kick off to “official” summer racing. There are also STORM clouds making their schedules across the east, so don’t get rained in with nothing to do.

To get the Grid for all the major race days and tracks, you can check out the subscription and one-time summer packages to get you thru all of the legendary summer racing at Saratoga and Del Mar.

Good luck this Domindepence Day weekend and enjoy the great racing!
