Suddenbreakingnews! The Mineshaft 3yo colt, who was nowhere to be found at 1st, 2nd, or 3rd call, made his presence known in the stretch, as he closed from far behind, grabbing 10 points towards his Kentucky Derby berth.

His odds of 4-1 were most likely that low due to his entry being coupled with stablemate Synchrony, who finished 3rd last time out, also at Oaklawn in the Smarty Jones stakes.
The pace didn’t appear to be incredibly fast, at 23 and 47, but faster than most 3yo Derby preps this year. Regardless, give SBN the credit for making a strong closing move from last to first. He found another gear where the others were done kicking.
Whitmore took control in the stretch, and hung on for 2nd, with American Dubai falling to 3rd after holding 2nd most of the race. The favorite, Collected, managed to hold on for 4th after battling for 4th most of the race.
