The 2016 Kentucky Derby Futures Pool 3 had some interesting twists and turns this year. Namely, none of the favorites won in Kentucky Derby prep races won this weekend.

So the odds could provide some interesting overlays. For example, Mor Spirit not winning but coming in 2nd is very cool for his followers because his odds will increase in the next race.
Riker couldn’t hang with a slow pace at Tampa in his 3yo debut, only keeping up for 3/4 before fading badly. Brody’s Cause had no pace to run at and proved it, finishing behind Riker.
Thus, if either of these top 2yo standouts can get a path to the Kentucky Derby, they will need one more race in the Championship series.
In the San Felipe, Danzing Candy set a solid pace and deserved to win. There are no excuses needed for Mor Spirit, but the Kentucky Derby is 10f not 8.5, and has 20 horses in it.
I’m not worried about Exaggerator either, except for his connections trying to run him from last place, which was an experiment. But the trial didn’t end in failure as he finished, not too far behind.
The ones I do feel sorry for are Uncle Lino, who proved he’ll never last at 10f, and Smokey Image who looked great in 6 undefeated races before getting stomped, and I Will Score, who will never score in a G1 race.
