Cathryn Sofia came into the Ashland G1 stakes last month on a tear, winning her first 4 career races by 22, 16, 7 and 5 lengths. The last 3 were stakes races, the last 2 G2’s.

In the Ashland, she got up to duel in the stretch with Rachel’s Valentina, while Weep No More came from way back and beat them both by a neck. Cathryn Sofia ended up 3rd.

Today, Rachel’s Valentina was highly favored at 5-2 and stalked the lead as usual, fading down the stretch to finish 6th. Weep No More was never in the slow paced race and wound up 7th.

Cathryn Sofia rated behind the favorite and exploded down the stretch this time, taking the lead and running away with it as she had in her first 4 career races, proving that for now she’s the best 3yo filly in the US.

Land Over Sea got up for 2nd over Lewis Bay, who had already lost by 7 to the winner in the Davona Dale. Go Maggie Go was 4th, losing in her 3rd career race after winning the Gulfstream Oaks.
