Homeboykris ends career and life with win on Preakness undercard
.
Saturday, May 21
Pimlico, Baltimore, MD
.
Homeboykris kicked off the day with a 9-1 win in race 1, but unfortunately it cost him his life. The 9 year old delivered a heroic stretch run, coming from almost 5 back on the turn to take the race. He galloped out nicely, took a victory lap, and was crowned in the winners’ circle. Then he had an apparent heart attack.

The Roman Ruler gelding had just run in his 41st career race, ending it with 3 wins in his last 4 races, all in Maryland. Although best known for his work in allowance and claiming races, he began his career as a very promising 2yo, winning the Champagne G1 and then running in the Kentucky Derby in 2010. After that it was off to a long career on the allowance and claiming circuit, racking up 5 wins to add to his maiden and G1, including 3 of his last 4.
.
Rest in peace, Homeboykris, and thanks for all the great racing efforts you gave us.
.
In race 4, Pramedya broke down with a front cannon bone fracture and was euthanized at the track. Hopefully that ends horse deaths for the day.
