We haven’t done a free Santa Anita Grid in a while so let’s do one today. As you may have figured out by now, we pay special attention to futurities and all the 2yo’s in development. That’s how we had 3 of the top 4 Kentucky Derby finishers ranked in the top 7 in our December Derby Dozen.

Others may claim that type of success but they would most likely be lying. But the way to have that insight is by paying attention to the futurities and 2yo stakes races. In other words, the year BEFORE they may run for the roses.
.
Today we have two great 2yo races from Santa Anita, which has produced many Kentucky Derby and Oaks contenders the last few years. The first will be the Landaluce for 2yo fillies going 5.5f over dirt. Download the Santa Anita Saturday Grid PP’s here to follow along.

    LANDALUCE STAKES 5.5F 2YO FILLIES DIRT $125K

The ML favorite is Chalon (Dialed In), coming off a solid win in a 56k maiden race at SA first out for Peter Miller. The only filly in this race that has beat anyone in the field is Miss Southern Miss (More Than Ready, 5-2 ML) who in her first start beat Tap It All rather easily in another 56k filly maiden race, for now-renowned trainer Keith Desormeux.
.
Of special interest is Theonewewaited for (Creative Cause, 7-2 ML) who broke her maiden first time out at 4.5f in yet another 56k maiden raice, for Mike Harrington. Besides having the best performance figure in the field, Rafael Bejarano gets aboard for this one. The others don’t look like contenders but they’re 2yo fillies and can take a huge jump in class at this age.
.

    SANTA ANITA JUVENILE 5.5F 2YO DIRT $125K

The other race of prime importance is the SA Juvenile, which is open but will be filled with colts as usual. 5 of the 6 colts have broken their maiden first time out in 56k maiden races, and most of which won convincingly. All 5 are listed at 4-1 or less morning line odds. Doug O’Neill trains 2.
.
Even if you’re not betting today, watch these 2yo’s run around the oval, and afterwards you can impress your friends by telling them who you think the best 2017 Kentucky Derby and Oaks contenders are.
.
As an added bonus, Firing Line commits his 2016 racing debut in an OCM62500n2x for 3 and up. He was last seen in a race being eased in the Preakness, after finishing 2nd in the Kentucky Derby to none other than Triple Crown Champ American Pharoah.
.
Firing Line is heavily favored in race 4, 3PM PT in the Morning Line, despite the circumstances of his Preakness loss. Kristo is the 2nd ML choice and looks to take it on the front end, but there is plenty of speed in the field, and Firing Line also likes it out front. Sammy Mandeville may be the benefactor, as the only late runner in the race.
