Saratoga Monday July 25 Pick 6 Recap: D’oh!

.
Monday, July 25
Saratoga Springs
.
Well, I’m personally in disbelief that I didn’t win the Pick 6 today at Saratoga. Easy, easy, easy, especially when you have the Grid. I even got the 20-1 that broke up most others’ Pick 6 tickets. Let’s take a look at the winners and at the end I’ll tell you where I messed up.
.
Follow along with the Grid, which was posted Monday morning.
.
R4 2:40 5.5f Turf 125 S-Md Sp Wt 2F (field 10):
Lady Joan: 3-2, 1st in EP/Speed/Power/Stamina, and favorite. Obvious inclusion.
.
R5 3:14 8.5f Inner Turf 120 S-Md 40000 3+FM (field 12):
Frosty Lady: 20-1. 1st in LP and Stamina, Top dirt PF, 2nd best PF of last 4.
This is where most tickets fell apart. Not mine, I was all over it, and like the angle going from good dirt race with top PF to turf.
.
R6 3:48 5.5f Turf 125 S-OClm 40000n2x 3+FM (field 7):
Animal Appeal: 1-1, 1st in EP, Power, Speed, 2nd Stamina, favorite, obvious inclusion.
.
R7 4:24 9.0f Dirt 125 OClm 62500n2x 3+ (field 7):
Watershed: 9-5, 4th LP, 2nd best PF last 10, 3rd best PF last 4.
I really didn’t like this one as much as others but included it because he was the ML favorite.
.
R8 5:02 5.5f Turf 125 LuckyCoin100k 4+ (field 8):
Long on Value: 3-1, 4th EP, 3rd Speed, 3rd Power, 2nd Stamina, 3rd LP
.

Long on Value runs away with Lucky Coin title.

This made a lot of sense, considering the favorite was an S0 in a sprint where not much speed existed, especially with the scratch of Weekend Hideaway, who would have won it if sound. Great angle, cutting back to sprint also after solid route races displaying both early and late speed.

.
R9 5:40 6.0f Dirt 148 Md 20000 3+ (field 11):
Shoot from the Hip: 4-1, Best PF last 4, best overall PF.
Another one cutting back from route to sprint, after producing the best last 4 PF in the field 2 races back. Given, that performance was sandwiched between 3 mediocre races. He also had the best PF of anyone’s last 10, which was registered 5 races back.
.
The last race was also the leg I missed. Don’t worry, my forehead is sore from hitting the wall. If this gelding had another indicator such as a high EP or LP, or something more to go on, I’d have included him. My initial feeling was that the high EP Porch Pounder would sail with it, and if not Heliodoro, Two Putt, or co-favorite Where’s Willy would close for the win.
.
Needless to say, that was a very painful loss for me, to go 5 deep and then lose the last leg when I had 3 outs, including the ML favorite, who also had the best trainer ROI stats, also cutting back from route, and tied for the best sprint PF.
.
So there it is, $29k down the drain. Well, it would have been a tad less if I cashed a winning 6 of 6 ticket as well. There were approximately 30 winners splitting up the $1.2 million Pick 6 pool. I’m guessing at least 1 or 2 of those winners was using the Grid, so feel free to send me a healthy donation.
.
You’re welcome.
