Welcome back to the first WWC podcast of the year, where we begin here in warm, sunny Miami for the Pegasus World Cup at Gulfstream Park.

For the sake of brevity and the time of this podcast airing at 3pm, we will begin stakes racing predictions with Race 9, the McKnight G3 on turf.  tho th

R9:  The favorite Ohana Honor is obviously high on power, but even e distance of 12f is drawn out, the lack of early speed points to looking for some horses with 5+ Quirin points possibly holding up for a piece.  Act a Fool at 30-1 could even hold on for a piece.

Balnikhov is cross entered in the PWC Turf Inv, but has a much better chance in this one.  Keep in mind, Offlee Naughty has highest PF overall, achieved at this distance 2 years ago.

R10:  The first PWC races is the FM Turf Inv.  There really isn’t much speed in here, a bunch of plodders, so I’ll be playing with the fastest early runners at 8.5f.  Movin’ On Up at 12-1, In Our Time at 5-1, Cailinhergrtness at 8-1, all look attractive.  Proctor Street at 12-1 has the top LP so I wouldn’t leave her out.

R11:  The Inside Info G2 returns to dirt at 7f, a tricky one to handicap, so you have to trust the PF’s in the Grid.  One Magic Philly 10-1 has been best at this distance, Grand Job 6-1 will look for the early lead. Beyond Belief at 12-1 needs to repeat her last race, and Sterling Silver at 8-1 will be picking up pieces late.

R12:  The PWC Turf Inv has 12 entries unless Balnikhov runs here. Again, not much speed in the field, so don’t be surprised if Cugino 7-2, Cabo Spirit 8-1, and or Major dude 8-1 figure in to the top 4.  Top LP Fort Washington at 10-1 has a good price, and Call Sign Seven at 15-1 continues to improve. Of course the fav is legit.

R13:  The PWC on Dirt G1 is a fascinating race with 12 entries after morning scratches.  There is a good amount of speed in here for a 9f race, so watch out for the late runners as indicated with top LP numbers.  Despite what the odds say of the favorite, this one is wide open.

I will definitely be mixing in Lightning Tones at 30-1, British Isles at 20-1 with last out best PF, White Abarrio at 4-1 who has won here many times, Full Serrano at 12-1, and Tappan Street at 6-1, who won the Fla Derby here last year. Skippylongstocking at 15-1 is in a 3 way tie for high PF.

Notice in this podcast we did not mention much about the favorites.  Mix them as you choose, but if you want to bet on favorites, you’re listening to the wrong podcast.  We do playable longshots here.  Whatever happens, good luck today.  Dalton out.

Saturday, July 5, 2025.  The Horseshoe at Indianapolis has its big race day today with 8 stakes races including the Grade 3 Indiana Derby and G3 Indiana Oaks for 3yo’s. It’s a hot sunny day in Indy for the 13 race card and over 100 horses running after morning scratches.

Today we’ll focus on the stakes portion of the card which begins with race 5 at about 2:23 PM ET.  To follow along, grab today’s free Indy Grid here: IND07052025G

We’ll focus on long shot specials, but keep in mind after a couple dozen scratches this morning, most of the ML odds will be reduced in some races, especially for live contenders.

R5 2:23ET 8.5f T InGenA DsHB100k 4 UP FM

In the Distaff, I have it as basically a 3 horse race with my top choice 3 Storm Miami at 8-1 ML, then the two favorites which will be both be <  3-1.

R6 2:56ET 8.5f D MHGrg MmHB100k 3 UP FM

Unless a couple other horses can achieve some rare prior form, it’s a 2 horse chalk race.

R7 3:30ET 8f T SnackH100k 3 YO 

A nice sized field of 12 makes for an exciting Snack Stakes today.  A good amount of early speed could will make what will be the favorite 6 Chicory Blaze, who will be 3-1 or less at post time, tough to beat.

Turf Rule 1: always bet top LP on turf routes.  The pace could open things up for other good LP runners such as 4 Ready to Seize, the top LP with a 20-1 ML, who could thrive in his first race on turf. Rule 1: always bet top LP on turf route.

7 Gin and Whisky also has good LP and power ratings and a 10-1 ML.  Some of the others with single digit odds will likely figure into the superfecta as well.

Turf Rule 2:  Always bet top EP transferring from dirt sprint to turf route.  3 Special Creed at 12-1.

Turf Rule 3:  Always bet the top power horse with the top PF.  1 Conference Calling 6-1 ML.

The Schuster was reduced to a field of 5 after morning scratches.  It’s really anyone’s race but I favor the longest shot, 3 Money Supply at 10-1ML.  Remember rule 1, top LP.  Alas his odds won’t be >5-1 post.

R9 4:40ET 8.31f D SchfrMemL100k 3 UP 

Rule 0:  Don’t waste a bet on a 5-2 or less favorite that appears legit.  Plus, with the amount of early speed in this race, it really adds up well for the late runners.

8 Moonlight 10-1 ML has top LP and the 2^nd best PF overall, even last out on a mud track

9 Kupuna has 12-1 ML and 3^rd  in LP, and 2^nd highest PF on the board.

4 Warrior Johny 10-1 ML is 4^th  in LP and has the 4^th best PF overall.

A nice big field of 12 has some possibilities but looks almost devoid of early speed and thus quite chalky.

However, remember Rule 1: 10 Innisfree lass 15-1 with top LP.

R11 5:55ET 8.5f D IndOaks-G3 3 YO F

The Oaks is down to a field of 5and will be a 3 horse race between the 3 favorites, all of which will be 2-1 or less at the post.

R12 6:33ET 8.5f D IndnaDby-G3 3 YO 

The Derby is down to 7 but is a much more competitive race. Unfortunately, all 5 winning contenders will be 5-1 or less by post time.

I would however give 2 Master Controller at 15-1 another chance at his 2^nd 2 turn race, after an excellent performance last out breaking his maiden.

5 Casso Hill and 9 Cause I’m Perfect have good ML odds but those will likely go down. Remember, none of these are winners and the first timer Casso Hill has a good trainer and jockey for this situation.
