What’s interesting is that the Derby Trial has no points in the Kentucky Derby championship series, and therefore is meaningless, or is it?
1 of Bob Baffert’s confirmed Derby duo, Chitu is scheduled to compete along with the 3rd stablemate Bayern, currently at 23d in the point standings.
Bayern could get into the Derby as an alternate entry this week if 3 other horses in the field scratch before post time.
For Chitu, it seems like a tune-up effort to get him to run alongside his stablemate in the running style they are going for in the Derby.
Bayern appears to be just the stable pony in this operation, but if he does draw into the Derby, who knows what could happen.
Both of the stablemates are at 2-1 in the morning line, that’s how confusing it is right now.
