Gulfstream Sat.Jan.30 Holy Bull, Swale, Forward Gal, Sweetest Chant Stakes Day

Saturday, January 30. 2016.
Gulfstream Park

Big stakes day for Gulfstream as they have 4 graded stakes races on the card, including the Forward Gal G2 for 3f, Swale G2 for 3yo, Sweetest Chant G3 for 3f turf, and the one that Ky Derby enthusiasts have been waiting for, the Holy Bull G2.

Unfortunately, this year’s Holy Bull at 8.5f only has 6 contestants, perhaps because of the favorite Mohaymen 6-5, who some already have ranked #1 this year although he has yet to run or win this year.

Mohaymen wins Remsen

Mohaymen wins Remsen

Mohaymen comes off two G2 wins at Aqueduct last November in the Nashua and Remsen, edging out Flexibility, who went on to win the Jerome G3 at Aqueduct earlier this month.

Competition will come from Greenpointcrusader 8-5, whose last race was a 7th place finish in the BC Juvenile last year, albeit only 4 1/4 lengths from the winner.

Also making his first start this year is Conquest Big E, who finished 1/2 length behind Greenpointcrusader in the BCJ for 8th. He won an OC75k over sealed slop at Churchill in his next race.

The other 3 are running for 4th place money and maybe a shot at 3rd if any of the top 3 falter.

Just as interesting will be the Swale G2, also for 3yo at 7f. The Swale features one of the fastest 3yo’s in training, Awesome Banner (Awesome of Course), who broke the track record at Gulfstream his first time out at 4.5f last June.

Awesome Banner comes off of a decisive 6f victory in the Hutcheson G2 last month in his 2nd lifetime race. If he continues to win at 7f, Stanley Gold could have him on the Derby trail. It looks like he’ll go off at even money or less.

At the time of this update, Cathryn Sophia has just won the Forward Gal G2 at 1-9 odds, so you didn’t miss much of a betting opportunity.

Also big race days at Santa Anita and Aqueduct, but for all the races you would need to subscribe or make a donation.
