The new two year old rankings, otherwise known as the American Free Handicap, were developed to fill in the void after the discontinuation of the Experimental Free Handicap and the lack of other available and reliable 2yo rankings. These are developed using statistical methods, as described below the table. Updated with final 2019 rankings on Jan.8, 2019.

Note that the graded races count for the same points whether filly, open, turf, dirt, sprint, or route. Consider it a general 2yo power ranking. Sort it by sex if you don’t want apples and oranges. Keep in mind that this is completely non-subjective, with no opinion interjection at all. We’ll see how this first year turns out and modify the system next year accordingly.

Here are this week’s current 2yo rankings. You may sort it by sex, sire, earnings, wins, etc. If you don’t see starts or earnings, they have not raced in the US (yet). Below the top 100 is a table of the rated 2yo races. * Earnings are for North America only.

Some notes about the new AFH juvenile rankings:
• Based on North American racing but some international stakes races are included
• No bias against sex, pedigree, racing distance, surface, or connections
• Based on track performance including win, place, show, earnings, and stakes racing
• Updated after all weekend racing is conducted
• Designed to become more accurate as the year progresses.
