Derby Grid time of year – Derby news

You know what time of year it is now, but I have to remind you anyway because that’s my job. I apologize for deserting you for so long, but life has been very busy for me this year with multiple jobs and projects going on. If you’re new to the newsletter, then welcome aboard!

The field is almost set for the Kentucky Derby right now, which will be run on Saturday May 3. It will be finalized on Wednesday after the post position draw to be held at 5pm with the top 20 in points standings entered if their connections give the go ahead, and the next 4 as alternate entries.

This is the top 24 as it stands right now.

You may recall that since last year, the Kentucky Derby standings are now based on points, rather than graded stakes earnings. Before that, a horse could win the BC Juvenile or another big race last year, then just show up in the Derby.

The points system ramps up points in the preps from January to April, with the big points being awarded in the major preps in the March to April time frame. So, the earnings don’t follow exactly in points order, but they are remarkably close.

The Derby Grid is being worked on feverishly as we speak, filling in all 77 of the criteria on each of these horses, from different databases and sources. It should be ready within a couple of days, but you don’t want to miss out on your copy, since we only sell a limited number.

You can get the Derby Grid here, where there is also a short video on how the Derby Grid has harnessed winners in the past, with an actual previous Grid.
