Today’s highlight race will be the Robert B Lewis G3 for 3yo’s at Santa Anita Park. This will be run over 8.5 furlongs on dirt with 7 horses initially entered in the race.

We’re going to take you thru them one by one here. The fourth race at Santa Anita is worth $150k total, $90k to the winner in addition to 10 Kentucky Derby Points.

1. Let’s Meet in Rio (Flatter) at 6-1 is a very interesting Ky Derby prospect, after finishing 2nd in the Sham G3 last month. The Bob Baffert horse closed from 8th to within 1.25 lengths at the end, after a relatively slow pace, to put himself on the Derby points board. Bigger things are expected today.
2. I Will Score (yes Beavis) at 5-2 is a Hollendorfer trainee by Roman Ruler, which normally means sprinter, and is making his first 2-turn start after winning his first two races which were sprints, in Socal, including a ,maiden and an 80k OCM. He will likely be controlling the pace.
3. Dressed in Hermes (6-1, Hat Trick, Janet Armstrong) has done well in 4 straight turf races, including a G3 win last out, after struggling in his first race a dirt sprint. Janet wants to see if she can put him in the Derby mix this weekend.
4. Laoban by Uncle Mo is so far unimpressive as a Derby prospect. 12-1 morning line, but his odds will likely go higher. Trainer Eric Guillot wants to see if the 4w trip last out is a good excuse.
5. The favorite, Mor Spirit at 8-5, is coming off an impressive win in the G1 Los Alamitos Futurity at 8.5 furlongs in December. He also has a 2nd in the Ky Jockey Club G2. Bob Baffert has the Eskendereya colt in prime position to earn a Derby slot.

6. Path of David is another one that has been taking the turf path for Kristin Mulhall. After struggling in his first two races, on dirt, the Istan colt has rattled off a maiden and stakes win at a mile on turf.
7. Uncle Lino, another Uncle Mo colt, comes into the race looking strong after a 3nk finish to I Will Score in the aforementioned OCM80k. Gary Sherlock will see how he likes going around two turns in this race.

It looks like the Lewis will turn out with Mor Spirit, I Will Score, and Let’s Meet in Rio as the top three finishers, but you never know with these 3yo’s. The best value is likely Rio, with his late closing ability in a field that is short but full of speed.

The Lewis also begins the Pick 6 sequence, which includes the Las Virgenes G2, San Antonio G2, San Marcos G2, and a MSW3 that we will be keeping a sharp eye on.
