Belmont Saturday Grid PP’s: ManO’War, Peter Pan, Beaugay, Ruffian

.
Saturday, Belmont has one of their biggest race cards of the year. The Grade 1 ManOWar is the the featured race, for older horses going 11f on turf. There are 3 other graded stakes on the card.
.
The race that many Triple Crown followers will be keeping an eye on is the Peter Pan G2, featuring some 3yo’s that have their eyes on the Belmont Stakes.
.
Adventist 4-1 may have had a disapointing Wood G1, finishing 3rd, but he’s finished 3rd in 3 straight graded stakes. His numbers keep improving and he looks to take another step forward this weekend.
.
Governor Malibu 10-1 actually won the Federico Tesio, a traditional Preakness prep, but placed 2nd via disqualification. He’s improving also and has a great early running style.
.
Decorated Soldier 6-1 is also improving off his 3rd lifetime race and first route. He won the Northern Spur at a mile at Oaklawn last out.
.
Wild About Deb 8-1 is even greener, coming off his first victory in a 9f maiden race in Santa Anita slop. He won easily by 8 lengths in his 2nd start.
.
The favorite, Unified at 4-5, is just as new, with 2 lifetime races, and none at route. However, he broke maiden first out, then muddied the field by 3 in the G2 7f Bayshore at Aqueduct last out.

Unified is the only one with a triple digit performance figure and one of 3 with multiple victories. If he likes the added distance as his pedigree suggests, he’ll be difficult to run with.
.
If he passes this test, he’ll be in single digit odds for the Belmont Stakes. The Candy Ride colt doesn’t have much value at below-even odds here, but is a tempting single in the Pick 6.
.
For value plays I like Wild About Deb and Governor Malibu. Good odds, good pressing running styles, and 9f victories already under their saddles.
.
There are actually 2 other horses in the Pan I didn’t mention, and I won’t. But they are the only S type runners so beware if the track goes adamant against all front runners and closers.
.
The ManOWar G1 has some nice horses for the long turf race, including the favorites Kaigun and Wake Forest. Both have solid graded stakes credentials.
.
The only early runner in the field is Go Around 10-1, an EP7. Most people don’t go for speed at 11f, but if it’s the only speed in the field, it can be a huge advantage.
.
Biz the Nurse 20-1 has great speed figures and is the top rated power horse in the Grid. However, those races were all last year, as he’s coming off an almost 1 year layoff. Still, the longest shot in the field.
.
For an added bonus, there’s Pick 6 carryover of $100k going into Saturday’s races. The other 2 graded stakes look chalky but there are 11 races on the card.
