Maximum Security Runs Again in Penn Derby G1 Saturday Sep.21 (Grid PP)

.
Thursday, September 19, 2019. Kentucky Derby Champion Maximum Security is running for money again this Saturday in the Grade 1, $1 Million Pennsylvania Derby at Parx in Philadelphia. Also on the card is the $1mil Cotillion G1, a Breeders’ Cup Challenge race in which the winner will get a BC Distaff berth.
.

Maximum Security survived the inquiry to stamp his Breeders' Cup Classic ticket and gained his 5th straight 3 digit Beyer figure in the Haskell G1 at Monmouth, July 20 2019

The Penn Derby has a short but competitive field, with 6 others brave enough to take on Maximum Security. His 7 race career boasts 3 G1 wins already, including the Florida Derby and Haskell Invitational, and only 1 loss by one length in his race before the Haskell.
.
Open the Parx Saturday Grid PP here to follow along.
.
Most of the others have lost to the champ at one point or another, except for Shanghai Superfly, who has no chance at all to win this race, and Mr. Money, who appears to be in top form on a 4 race win streak of Grade 3 races. His last G1 race was 4th in last year’s BC Juvenile.
.
Penn Derby projected finishing order and morning line odds:
Maximum Security 9-5
Mr. Money 4-1
Improbable 3-1
Spun to Run 8-1
Math Wizard 8-1
War of Will 5-1
Shanghai Superfly 30-1

The Cotillion G1 field is also very competitive, with 11 fillies competing for the Breeders’ Cup Distaff entry. Guarana followed up her April debut 14 length win with 2 G1 wins and thus has been assigned as the 9-5 favorite. In the Acorn G1, she put away two others in this field, Serengeti Empress and Jeltrin, with relative ease.
.
Serengeti Empress won the Kentucky Oaks this year and would like to be unpressured up front to stay ahead of Guarana this time. But that appears unlikely as more than half the field would like to have the early lead. With a usually good late kick, Street Band appears to be the best non-Guarana pick here.
.
The 13 race card has over 120 horses entered and several other stakes races including the Gallant Bob G2.
