Kentucky Derby Futures Pool 1 is active and available on all betting sites and OTB’s. Unfortunately, our 1st Derby Dozen for the year is planned to be released next week on Wednesday, after the pool is over.

The Dozen planned release of Dec.3 is specifically because we want to see how the Kentucky Jockey Club G2 plays out, after the surprise BC Juvenile results that still don’t compute properly.

We’re still a bit skeptical of the BCJ results and figures, and when the DD comes out I’m guessing Maxfield and Independence Hall will still be the top picks, but we will wait to see if anyone dazzles today in the KYJC.

2 of the KYJC contenders are in the futures pool. Southbend, undefeated in 3, last eked out a Street Sense Stakes win at Churchill. Tiz the Law has won both his races including the Grade 1 Champagne at Belmont. So both already have solid merit.

Either of these 2 or the unnamed winner of the KYJC will likely appear near the top of the Dozen coming out and may even earn #1 which we will determine afterwards. Remember the race is at Churchill so it does have added weight in Derby forecasts.

For now, take the free Derby Futures Pool Grid and start making your picks, because the next pool won’t be until next year. There’s a lot of racing and new starters between now but if you can get a good price on your fav now then do it.

Remember the odds change daily and don’t get locked in until closing time, which today will likely be before the KYJC is completed, so it’s tricky and if you really like a contender racing today then bet it beforehand and hope for the best.
