Friday, March 6.  Kentucky Derby Futures Pool 4 opened today and will be open until Sunday at 6pm.  The Kentucky Oaks pool is also open. The Down and Dirty Derby Double Dozen thus makes its next appearance today as an appropriate guide on raising some good long shot specials.

Note that 8 of the entries in the Futures Pool are running this Saturday in various stakes races, unless you count the field (all others) which is also by definition running in each of those stakes races.  In the Grid below, note the highlighted horses racing in: Gotham: gray, Tampa Derby: Green, San Felipe:Red.

Note that the odds lock down at the end of each betting day. For this reason it was important to get the Double Dozen and Grid out today.  For example, if you like The Great One in the San Felipe, you’ll want to get him at 50-1 today rather than whatever he goes down to after winning.

The Derby Double Dozen Top 25 is released about once per month based on objective opinion. The Kentucky Derby superfecta normally consists of horses from the top 10 in this list.
