Gulfstream opens new Tapeta track Sept.30

.

Thursday, September 30, 2021.  Gulfstream opens its new Tapeta track for racing today at 12:50 PM ET with the first race of 4 that will be on the artificial surface, alternating with the 4 races on dirt.  The new track was built to alleviate wear and tear on the turf course which will remain closed this week.

Gulfstream Park’s Tapeta Course installed in September 2021.

.

Tapeta is an artificial surface that was invented by horse trainer Michael Dickinson in the 1990’s when it was available exclusively at his training facility in Maryland.  It gained attention after being sold to Golden Gate and Woodbine as their main tracks.

.

Gulfstream will make history in October as the only racetrack to feature dirt, turf, and synthetic racecourses in their daily racing agenda.  Trainers such as Graham Motion and Michael Stidham are elated, since polytrack is their favorite surface for training.

.

You are free to use today’s Free Gulfstream Grid to see how the new track is playing out.

.

The fabled racing establishment, located in Hallandale Beach, a subsector of Miami Florida, is open for racing basically year round, only closing for a week here and there.  With the massive amount of thunderstorms in the summer and hurricanes in the fall, the turf course takes a beating.
