Golden Gate Gaggle Sat April 29: Cal Oaks, Derby, San Fran Mile, etc

.

Saturday, April 29.

Golden Gate has a rare great race card today including 6 stakes races featuring the San Francisco Mile.Ā  Other stakes include the Cal Oaks and Derby, the west coast version for those not good enough to ship to Kentucky next weekend.

.

Fortunately for San Fran, the weather is moderate and cool, with the temp not exceeding 60 degrees and very little chance of rain.Ā  Lucky for you, we are providing the Grid for Golden Gate today. Racing starts at 4:15pm so you can get a head start. Get Grid hereĀ

.

Unfortunately for all of us, the Cal Oaks has a short field of 5, so not really any good for betting, but there are a lot of possibilities.

.

Lost in the Fog stakes scheduled for 7:51PM, named after the famous speedster who dominated California for a while.Ā  The chalk looks good, but there are a lot of options for the super.Ā  Consult the Grid.

.

Moving forward to the California Derby, there are some good non-Kentucky Derby steeds.Ā  There’s a lot of early speed on paper, so we don’t know yet whether the riders will be strangling their mounts.

.

If they let it ride, Passarando, who will go off at less than ML of 5-1 but may still have good value, Chase the Chaos will be chasing the hot pace, and Prince Abu Dhabi looks good here, as well as Harcyn.

But I’m here to get you a longshot here and there.

Nauvoo at 20-1 has the best EP and the best last race PF.

Egon at 12-1 ML had a nice debut and can improve here.

Sea Dog 20-1 has a right to finish in the super.

.

The San Fran Mile G3 does NOT have much early speed lined up, but it’s only 8f so anything can happen.Ā  If the only two frontrunners are running early then you’re getting some great value according to the morning line:

Lamplighter Jack 8-1

Bob and Jackie 6-1

Tarantino 12-1

Lamplighter Jack: winner.

Lamplighter Jack: winner.

Yes, the chalk looks good, especially if the early speed fires up, but don’t sleep on Il Bellator at 15-1 or Rio King at 12-1 coming back to turf from some nice races on poly.

.

Go here to get the Grid for all your favorite tracks and races, including the Kentucky Derby!
